New Government Block for Nelson
Until a new courthouse is built, the ground floor of the new building will serve as a temporary court. The two top floors will be occupied by the Lands and Deeds Division of the Justice Department, Lands and Survey, Forest Service and other Government departments. Before the end of this year the Ministry of Works will be calling tenders for the erection of the new Government office block pictured below. The three-storeyed reinforced concrete structure was designed by Mr Cedric Firth, Wellington, and it will be erected on the site shown at left (Bridge Street at top, Hardy Street at bottom). This plan also shows a proposed layout for the Nelson Government centre.
