Nelson Industry Hit by Credit Squeeze

Not so many months ago, Mr C. D. Brinsden was employing a staff of 29 and paying a wages bill of £12,000 a year at Trafalgar Textiles Ltd, Tahuna. Today, as the result of credit squeeze and import control, he has only a caretaker staff of two keeping the business operating and he, himself, has had to look for employment. The factory manufactures shirts, but orders for them have grown smaller and smaller. Mr Brisden hopes the position will improve later this year, but in the meantime an industry established by hard work and enterprise, is virtually at a standstill.
