"Miss Nelson - Marlborough"
Robyn Chapman (dental attendant, Stoke)
Joanna Elkington (telephone operator, Richmond)
Claire Roberta (shop assistant, Motueka)
Miss Shirley McEwan, a hairdresser, and sweet 18, represented Neleon-Marlborough at the "Miss New Zealand" contest at Dunedin recently, Shirley (above) was placed first in the contest held in Nelson last month and a very popular choice she was. There were only four contestants, but this did not prevent a huge crowd from packing the coffee bar of Wright Stephenson's to see the girls parade in a ball gown and a swimsuit. At the national contest, Shirley was among the 15 finalists but did not gain a major placing.
