Colour cover for Nelson Photo News No.1 shows a scene familiar to most residents. Under an azure sky on a warm spring morning, Paul Oliver brings his yacht alongside the slipway, where friends are waiting to give him a hand. In the background a ship, almost obscured, can be seen passing through the channel to the open sea.

Paul, a member of the Iron Duke Sea Scouts, was giving his new yacht a trial run. Aboard with him were a friend, Bill Hope, and his sister, Elizabeth Oliver.
