The Hotel Metropolitan, well-known hostelry in Bridge street was put up for auction at the beginning of the month, but was passed in when the reserve price was not met. Bidding reached £17,500. Negotiations for the sale of the building privately were proceeding when this issue went to press. The hotel is free-hold and has 21 bedrooms

The Nelson police provided three of the four-man team of rifle shooters to represent New Zealand against New South Wales police at their centennial celebrations at Sydney. Ready to make their departure from Nelson were Constable N. Tyree, E. Bovey, and Sergeant N. B. Oxnam (third right). Mrs Oxnam and children and Senior Sergeant E. B. McCallum were present to see them off.
