City's New Paving Plant

The city's new paving plant, brought by road from Christchurch last month, is the latest addition to the ever-changing reclamation skyline. The plant, although not quite complete - a new tar-heating unit has still to come - is already operating to capacity. Its first major job was the completion of the new section of roading on Bridge Street, from Collingwood Street. A week or so earlier, it was given a trial run, providing the mix for new footpaths in Tahaki Street.

Nelson turned on some liquid sunshine for the handing over ceremony, but there were smiles from Stan Russell, Mr R. L. Stevens (chief designer for Andersons Ltd, makers), Mel Parker, G. Atkinson. Fred Sloes (operator), Mr H. B. Anderson (managing director) and city engineer, Charlie Kidson.
