For some time Nelson City Council has been raising loan monies from the public for its Maitai water supply scheme, a scheme which will be of inestimable value to Nelson when completed. We visited the dam and water reserve sites recently to view the progress made. On the way we saw the great scars on the hillside, tracks bulldozed out to carry the big concrete water pipes, and took the following series of pictures to give you some idea just where your money is going. At top is a picture of a valley just above the north branch of the river, which will one day be flooded. The approximate dam site is shown by the white lines in the bottom pic.
