Seeing the railway was in the news this month, Miss M. Toohey, now living in Christchurch, sent us this pic of the old Richmond railway station as it was about the turn of the century.

The First World War affected Nelson as it did every other town and city of New Zealand, but Nelson's residents did not intend to let it interfere with the celebration of daffodil day. From the look of this pic by Mr F. N. Jones, practically all the town turned out to see the procession. In the foreground is the Retailers' Queen, winning exhibit in the procession. The float represented a tribute to the United States, which had just come into the war. The pic was taken on September 15, 1917. Times certainly have changed. We don't seem to have processions like this these days.
