Busy Port Nelson

The Port of Nelson is a busy place. Coastal steamers and the bigger overseas cargo vessels seldom leave berthages empty for any length of time, and inward and outward freight flows in an endless stream across the wharves. Shortly, the tempo will increase as the apple and fruit crops are shipped overseas.

Two Japanese logging ships were in port together and between them took 172,500 cu. ft. of timber

Work continues on the concreting and strengthening of the decking on the main wharf, another section of which is being completed here.
