A Wonderful Effort

×

Thirty-six years ago, when Mr and Mrs Noel Watson went to live at what is now Watson Street, they had to first batter down gorse, broom and scrub to get on their property. All this rubbish was on council property, a "paper" road. Today, this area, still the property of the council, has been transformed by Mr and Mrs Watson into one of the show-places of Nelson. Hundreds of shrubs, native trees, and flowers of every variety have been bought and planted on the half acre of ground, by these two public-spirited citizens. Recently, the council recognised their efforts and put in a zig-zag concrete path up through this lovely garden, giving residents in both Quebec and Washington roads the opportunity of enjoying the beauty which a quiet walk brings to light.
