Aero Club's Rally

Aero clubs from all but two South Island centres were the guests of the Nelson club for the annual island rally. For the air-minded, there was plenty to see, especially in the range of aircraft taking part. There were Tiger Moths, Cessnas, twin-engined Piper Apaches and Austers. The major award this year went to the Southland club, some of whose members were photographed (below) by Mr W. N. McLaren. Above is an aerial pic of the rally headquarters with some of the 30-odd aircraft lined up.

A museum piece, the Nelson club's D.H.84 (Dragon), designed in 1934 and built in 1942. Report has it that this machine is the only one of its kind still flying in Australasia.
