Fate contains the unlikeliest coincidences. Eric Kidson, a foreman with B. R. Malcolm Ltd, featured in one, recently. On September 12,1923, a bottle containing a list of four signatures was laid in the wall of the old Hurst building, in Trafalgar Street. One of those signatures was that of the foreman on the job, J. R. (Russ) Kidson. On a Saturday morning recently, the building was demolished and, because he was replacing a man who was absent, Eric Kidson was on the site. The bottle with the builders' names was found and Eric immediately recognised his father's writing.

Some strange friendships develop in the animal world. One such alliance is between 'Dill Dill,' the Aeroplane Duck, and 'Trix,' a three-year-old Fox Terrier. Both belong to Mrs Pat McKay, of Stoke. 'Dill Dill,' who is a year older than her canine companion, has an odd deformity of her wings and they are permanently fixed in an "aeroplane" position. The depth of their friendship was illustrated when 'Trix' had pups. No one could approach Trix and her litter without Dill Dill' intervening.

Students at Jillian Gay's School of Ballet were pleasantly surprised to have Jon Trimmer, well-known member of the New Zealand Ballet Company, give them a few lessons, recently. Jon is shown leading the class through some exercises. He was with the national company for performances in Nelson.
