Open Marathon Won By Bob Anderson
Bob Anderson collected a few of the prizes he donated, in the annual Nelson open handicap marathon, during Labour Weekend. Anderson did not expect to win the race, although he has completed nine previous marathons and is no stranger to road running. But he had a bout of 'flu the day before the race. His time for the 26 mile, etc. journey was 3hrs 20min. 4sec. Murray Taylor was second and John Dixon third. Dixon also had fastest time of 2hrs 29min. 20sec. Eight of the 23 starters finished.
