Nelson's New Tug Commissioned

Progress at Port Nelson took a significant step with the commissioning of its new tug, the "W. H. Parr." The $482,000 vessel is a powerful unit which will facilitate easier berthing for the biggest ships which call here. And the "W. H. Parr's" presence could encourage even larger ships to call at Nelson. The tug was built at Port Chalmers by Sims Engineering Ltd, and is named after the general manager of the Nelson Harbour Board. It is one of the first in New Zealand to be equipped with steerable propulsion and a rotating bow fender.
