United Robbed Of League Title

The N.Z.F.A. has made a mockery of regional authority. In awarding the two points which the Central Regional League committee had penalised Wellington Diamond United, for playing an unregistered player, the N.Z.F.A. has taken a big step to destroying the faith that associations should have in the national body. Had the N.Z.F.A. not upheld W.D.U.'s appeal, Nelson United would have won the league title, $500 prize money and a crack at National League. The Wellington Association has not given up. It has appealed against the N.Z.F.A.'s decision and, if the executive committee, scheduled to meet on October 16, does not decide in Nelson United's favour, the matter might go to arbitration. The photos here show United beating Wellington Waterside, 4-2, in the match that should have clinched the title.
