Port Nelson has certainly changed since this photograph was taken in the early 1900s. Old mariners could scarcely have conceived developments which have eventuated, or that a huge pile of woodchips, thousands of logs and tons of fruit would stand ready for export from the little port they knew

Huge breakers pound Rocks Road in March, 1910. Even in those days Tasman Bay occasionally erupted into a wild waterway

There was no need for traffic lights on the intersection of Trafalgar and Bridge Streets in the early 1900s. Trafalgar Street has retained its basic appearance, although the old Trafalgar Hotel on the corner has gone the way most good old pubs do
