42nd Synod of the Nelson Anglican Diocese

About 94 delegates attended the 42nd annual Synod of the Nelson Anglican Diocese in Nelson, recently. The Synod upheld the decision of the New Zealand General Synod to oppose the Springbok rugby tour next year and defeated a motion which expressed regret that the General Synod had found it necessary to debate and take sides on the tour issue.

The Synod postponed its vote on church union until next year's synod. By that time it will have been able to assess the results of a referendum to be held later this year.
