Jack Frost's About

×

Frosts have hit Nelson hard this winter. At one stage the official readings showed we've experienced the coldest period of successive frosts in 18 years. Out Wakefield way, old timers reckon its the longest run of frosts in 60 years and the regular occurrence of white covering the countryside brought back the memories of when 32 frosts in succession were recorded. The heaviest frosts were -9 degrees Celsius, although these are not as hard as the 11.7 deg C., recorded in June, 1945. Our picture shows a calf galloping across a field of crisp, white And Cold frost.
