Eight Wins To Derek Wood At Nelson College Sports

The outstanding college athlete, Derek Wood, won eight events, set two records, and equalled another, to win the Nelson College Senior title. Wood won the 80 metres, 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump, high jump, open javelin, open cricket ball throw, and the 110 metres hurdles. He set records in the 100 metres (11.7sec), and the javelin, and equalled the 80 metres' time of 9.6sec. Warwick Scott won the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, shot put, and discus, to win the Intermediate title, and John Gully won the Junior championships with wins in the 200 metres, long jump, and hurdles.
