Nelson–Marlborough Pony Trials
Nelson riders were to the fore in the recent Nelson-Marlborough area pony trials, to select a five-strong team for the national pony club championships. All five members are from Nelson province. The trials were held at Redwood Valley.
The five Nelson riders who will comprise the team for the national championships at Masterton during the May holidays are Reay Fitzgerald (Waimea) with 'John Peel,' Margaret Rogers (Tapawera), 'Historic,' Nicki Saunders (Motueka), 'Gold Mist,' Marie O'Brien (Waimea), 'Bold Lad,' and Roger Bailey (Wakatu), 'Goose Loose'
