Waimea Packhouse Opened

A historic development in the Nelson fruit industry was made with the opening of the Nelson Packhouse Co-operative, recently. About 180 people attended the opening by the M.P. for Buller, Mr W. E. Rowling, who said it signalled the beginning of a new era for the 50 growers in the co-operative. Congratulations to the co-operative on its step were given by the president of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation — Mr P. K. McCliskie, Nelson's M.P. — Mr S. A. Whitehead, the Mayor — Mr R. A. McLennan, and the chairman of the Waimea County Council — Mr J. L. Borlase.
