Schools' Cross-Country Championships

Chilly, blustery conditions, better suited for the competitors than the spectators, prevailed for the inter-secondary schools' cross-country championships held at the Cable Bay turn-off.

Grant Nelson, Nelson College, won the senior event easily.

Senior place-getters Murray Brereton (Nelson College), 3rd, Grant Nelson, 1st, and Kim Gallagher (Nelson College), 2nd.

Junior girls' place-getters Karen Wood (Nelson), 2nd, Roslynne Aberhart (Nelson), 1st, and Laural Tuckerman (Marlborough Girls), 3rd.

First and third in the senior girls' race were Jane Venis and Meryl Wastney of Nelson College for Girls.

Juniors: Barry Richardson (Nayland College), 2nd, Bruce Irvine (Nayland), 1st, and Denny McHugh (Nelson), 3rd.
