Therese Eathorne, a member of the Crackerjacks team which won the A grade girls' championship at the Nelson Y.M.C.A. Friday night basketball competition, was not able to be at the presentation. Therese recently had a corrective spinal operation and is going to be in bed for about another five months so Kelvin Gay, chairman of the basketball committee, and Mrs D. Akehurst, Crackerjacks' coach, made the presentation to Therese at her home

Luckily someone spotted this fire, in Miss L. G. Blomfield's flat at 14 Victoria Road, before it got a good hold. Firemen were quickly on the scene and had the blaze under control before it progressed from the basement. This is what every sporting team needs - a party of vocal supporters. This group comprised staunch (and musical) supporters of the Buller rugby team at the final challenge of the season, for the Seddon Shield at Motueka. Nelson Bays retained the Shield with an 18-6 win
