ZL2 Calling Old-Timers
The Nelson branch of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters recently held a meeting for the old-timers in the hobby. At this meeting were displayed varieties of equipment once commonly used by "hams."
Old manuals and equipment were on display and members were eager to look at both. Here Geoff Gould (ZL2-KF) studies a manual. With him are Les Hunter (ZL2-AIY), Ern Bradley, who started transmitting in 1919 at Hawera, and Arthur Knight (ZL2-FI). On the table is the equipment used in the original 2YA in 1923, with the condenser microphone on top and beside it, in contrast, a modern transceiver
Ray Wilson (ZL2-AUA) operates a modern transceiver, watched by Bill Clemens (ZL2-BGU). Ray was talking to Wanganui at the time
Mark Simpson and Paul Campion received their licences last October and are now ZL2-TNS and-TFM. Here they are examining a 1928 receiver
A triode transmitting valve, one of the first type used in aircraft, is examined by Joe White (2JQ) and Mick Spiers (2KQ). Both have been transmitting since about 1930
A 1928 receiver is studied by Johnny Johnston ((AJU) and Sam Cook (2QQ)
