Rival Topple old Boys

Rival virtually assured themselves of the 1971 Nelson Bays senior rugby championship with a 15-9 win over their closest rivals, Waimea Old Boys. Both sides were unbeaten before the clash. Rival's Colin McNabb scored the only try of the game. Other Rival points came from Ian Jaspers with two penalties and John Chadwick dropped a goal and scored the same way from a mark. Ron Tasker, who levelled the scores at 9-all with a dropped goal, and Mike Lusty, two penalties, were Waimea's scorers.
