Best Driver is a Desk Jockey

Larry Kells successfully defended his title in the 1971 Nelson truck driving contest to prove that you don't have to be a truckie to be able to handle a Leyland, Bedford or Mac. Larry was once on the road but is now in the office with Transport Nelson. But he proved he has not lost the knack as he easily won the event for the second time from Murray Teece and Baden Biggs. Thirty-nine drivers competed. The top three will compete as a team at the national contest in Queenstown in October.

"Come on you xxxxxx, " mutters Larry (under his breath) as he tries to attach the trailer. Contestants had to back a trailer into an area, unhook it, approach from a different angle and hook up again
