Six young Nelson dancers performed as extras in the touring show, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, " while it was here. Snow White, played by Donna Lee, was only too happy to pose for a picture with young girls Vicki Russell, Karen Gregg, Margaret Walsh, Snow White, Catherine Jackson, Lynne Farrer and Sheryll Gill. The Nelson girls are members of Jillian Gay's School of Ballet.

Stock car racing in Timaru didn't know what had struck when a strong Nelson contingent paid a visit to the South Island championships. The rough'n'tumble tactics of the Nelson drivers was a bit much for the opposition and the Nelson cars did not quite conform with hometown rules. Garry Pulley was able to enter and won the event.
