Southerners Were too Good
The visiting Australian Southerners cracked on the pace in the second spell to beat Nelson 72-49 in a representative women's basketball match. Nelson opened well and for a period in the first spell scored point for point with the Australians. The halftime score was 30-22 to Southerners.
Southerners' top scorer Fran Barns sends away another scoring shot. She netted 16 points
Everyone appears to have lost control of the ball here. At left is Kaye McFarlane, captain of the visiting team, and behind her is Dianne Wilson. We are not sure who the Nelson player is, but next to her is Marie Stevens and nearest camera is Nelson's Heather Dick
Looks like Kaye McFarlane is going to score for Southerners and Janie Bennet (No. 14) can't do much about it
Karen Wright leaps high to score for Nelson
