Wet Weather Skaters

Bad weather did not stop some fast times in the road races of the Nelson Amateur Skating Club's Nelson Breweries Cup competition.

Rain fell throughout the events but times in the men's 5000 and 10,000 metres were better than last year. Paul Chesmar and Colin Harvey, Christchurch, tied in the shorter race in 11min 52.5 sec (12 min 12.4sec last year) and Chesmar won the 10,000 metres in 23min 46.2sec (25min 35.7sec). Figure skating was held in the Four Square Bulk Store and the Stoke Basketball Stadium but rinks events were cancelled.
