Publicans in the Chop

Two publicans-Amby Ryan (Brightwater) and Rick Pettifer (Railway Hotel, Richmond) - were the first to compete for a perpetual trophy among supporters of the Nelson Bushcraft Club. Ryan, off 15 seconds, beat Pettifer, off three seconds, by two strokes. The first challenger for the Supporters' Challenge Cup is the publican of the Swan Hotel, Motueka, Jack Pretty. The inaugural chop was held in conjunction with a carnival at Richmond.
