The Old ("Gold") Coast

×

Blacks Point, another legendary name of gold field days. Tailings from the fold field can be seen in the left foreground. The backdrop of timber on the range in the background has gone and only scrubby bushes stand where there were once proud trees. This was Blacks Point in its hey-day. Most of the buildings have gone but one consistent feature is the Reefton River.

Taken in the early 1900s, this photograph shows Bridge Street, Reefton, with the Consolidated Gold Fields building on the right. The thick native timber in the background is now all fone and is replaced with scrub.
