Australia-Bound Rotarians

About 50 Rotarians from the Nelson area were among the 800 New Zealand Rotarians who attended the 1971 Rotary International Convention held in Sydney. Many took their wives and families with them and we went along to a farewell function for the Nelsonians arranged by Dalgety Travel.

All smiles were Dorothy and Pat Day

Alister and Isabel St John, and Eric and Dorothy Bishop were pretty happy about it too

Looking forward to Australia were Max and Barbara Hunter, Consie Fehsenfeld, Madge Farquhar and Effie and Maree Hunter

Among the travellers were Russell Egan, Stan Lynch, Peter Barkle and their wives Barbara Barkle, Anne Egan and Audrey Lynch

Two Nelson Rotarians were to chair two of the 55 assemblies at the convention. Bill Mangos (left) was to chair the Oil Marketing assembly and Mr A. R. Angelo was to chair the Horology (clock making) and Jewellery assembly. With them are their wives

Clutching their tickets and all set to go are Eleanor and Harry Coltman and Ella and Jim Trathen

Laurie and Dena Ashby also had their tickets on hand

Jeanne Chapman, Eleanor Coltman and Ella Trathen gave us a big smile. Australia was not far away at that moment

It's ticket handing-out time and Mr E. S. Highet is on the receiving end. At left is Peter Lowry, New Zealand sales manager of Dalgety Travel and handing the ticket wallet to Mr Highet is Mr Lowry's assistant, Mrs G. L. Clark. Looking on is travel manager of the Nelson branch Bob Burridge. Mr Highet is the Nelson branch manager
