Karen–1971 "Miss Marching"

Karen Marshall of the Nelson Legionnaires won this year's Miss Nelson Marching title at the Nelson-Marlborough centre championships.

As Miss Marching Karen had to perform several duties - presenting prizes and saluting teams in the march past - and these she did admirably.

There was a strong entry of senior teams in the championships with several visiting teams participating.

Manaroas won the midget championship and owe their success to instructor Mrs Ellen Schwass

Debbie Smith of Rakaia gained the most sponsors for centre fund-raising purposes and won this cuddly purse

Glengyle step out in style during the march past

Rutherford Regiment of the Waimea association has a spell before competing. Chaperone Mrs Rae Norgate is in the centre and on her right is leader Cynthia Berkett, who won the senior individual championship. Rutherford Regiment was second in the teams' championship

Legionnaires was the champion junior team and was also instructed by Mrs Schwass. The leader is M. Quinn
