Shifting House - Y.M.C.A. Style

The Glen Hope school house has shifted to Gowan Camp. And it did not go in one piece. The house was donated to the Nelson Y.M.C.A. if it was shifted.

So the Nelson Y's Men's Club got stuck in and moved it. After slicing the building in half the volunteer workers tossed the halves on to the back of a truck and away it went. Sounds easy doesn't it?

These pictures, by Russell Knapp, show the first half being moved and by now the second section should be at Gowan winch is half way between Gowan Bridge and Lake Rotoroa and 1.3½ miles from Glen Hope. The. house will be used for a family camp and leaders' training centre.
