In preparation for the tourist season the Nelson Harbour Board has tidied up the area around the ramp at the small boat harbour. The area in the foreground has been levelled and the incline made less acute. This will allow owners of rowing boats and dinghies and small craft to beach their boats more easily. In the background (arrowed) is the board's new amenities block which incorporates toilets and a sizeable room for which a purpose has yet to be found-a canteen, perhaps.

One of the big macrocarpa trees fronting St. Barnabas's Church, Stoke, was cut down recently. The tree was considered dangerous. A big gang of men turned out to dispose of the giant, the size of which can best be measured by the comparison (Below) with little Helen Walker.
