Obedient Canines

Dogs are marvellous companions but, like children, they can be unruly and wilful. And, just like children, obedience should be demanded of them. Here in Nelson, as in many other centres throughout New Zealand, the Canine Obedience Club helps dog owners to achieve this end. Club members meet regularly, and under the commands of instructors, put their dogs through their paces. "Homework", where the lessons taught are applied to the dogs each day, is very necessary and if this is done correctly and constantly in the initial stages, an unruly pup soon learns that life is more than a great romp. Take "Jazz" Langridge and Ace, Above, as an example. In this case Ace is taking "Jazz" for a walk. At Right, however, both walk as a unit. Judy King and Tui (Top Right) show what can be accomplished with proper training. Judy is club secretary, and anybody wishing to join the club can contact her at telephone 6323.
