A big loss to Nelson district and the "Mail" is Doug McGilvary, his wife Margaret, and family Grant, Paul, Rowan, Brent and Diane. Doug was chief reporter and sports editor of the "Mail" for much of his 14 years with the paper. The family has left for Wellington where Doug is to take up the appointment of lecturer in journalism at Wellington Polytechnic. Doug's interest in sport and his ability as a sports writer took him to the Commonwealth Games at Perth and Jamaica and the Rome Olympics as a member of the Press Association team. He was also very interested in education and has been a member of the Nelson Education Board for five years and chairman of the Broadgreen Intermediate School interim committee. His wife Margaret was a member of the Operatic Society and took part in several of its productions.
