The Car Maker

By Christmas, Graham Birch, of 25 Toi Toi Street, hopes to have this lightweight, three-wheeler utility vehicle on the road. Then will end four years of work on the machine. Graham conceived the idea of building his own vehicle, drew up the plans and set about the task. With the exception of accessories like door-handles and trafficators, and wheels, everything for the car was hand-made. The body-work was panel-beaten into shape and some areas fibreglass moulded. It will be powered by a Wankel 10 h.p. rotary engine and an adapted gearbox with chain drive. Graham estimates the vehicle has cost him about $1000.
