Celtic Rugby Club's Jubilee

The Celtic Rugby Football Club celebrated its 25th jubilee with special functions during Labour Weekend. Former members, from as far north as Auckland and as far south as Dunedin, attended and these were augmented by many members of the club in the Nelson district. The functions included a men's get-together, a jubilee Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Vanguard Street, a family sports afternoon and the main function, a dinner in the club gymnasium for members and their partners. About 250 attended the dinner to hear a highly entertaining address from former All Black Kelvin Tremain. At the celebrations were six of the club's eight presidents. They are seen Above, from left: Messrs Roy Mace (fourth president), Don MacLean (eighth), Mat Reedy (third), Jim Cairns (fifth), Ces Fox (sixth), and the foundation president, Charlie Webley. The other two presidents, Messrs Bill Neave (second) and Jim Baker (seventh), were unable to attend.
