A Concert to Remember

All the items presented by individual schools during the Nelson city primary schools' music festival were most enjoyable, but they paled into insignificance when compared to the tremendous effort of the massed choir in its singing of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat". With but the merest pause between the significant episodes of the story, the children sang for an unfaltering 20 minutes. Inspired, no doubt, by the energetic conducting of Miss M. Rayward, schools' music adviser, and the backing of a mod pop group "The Link" and Raymond White on the organ, the children sang with verve and feeling. How they managed to remember all the words is a mystery in itself. We offer all concerned in this great effort a very big pat on the back-especially the children. We have since ascertained that the scores for this giant undertaking were handed out to individual schools in June and that there was only one rehearsal before the actual presentation. At Left, Miss Rayward conducts the massed choir in its great performance ("The Links" are at right).
