The intersection of Trafalgar and Bridge Streets, in 1921, with the Trafalgar Hotel on the extreme right.

This picture was taken from Church Hill about 1903. The crowd, we believe, is attending the official opening of the new city council chambers. Note the hansom cab rank in the middle of Trafalgar Street and the flag flying from the then post office slightly to the left of the council chambers.

On our back cover of last issue we reproduced a photograph of the area adjacent to Anzac Park, from Stanley Crescent. This picture, taken about the turn of the century, shows a big area of land in the foreground which is now occupied by commercial premises between Halifax Street (the road on the left) and Wakatu Lane on the right.

Rocks Road (without any road) and Magazine Point. We have no knowledge of when this picture was taken but it would be before 1897. The director of the Nelson Museum, Mr Jim Eyles, told us that the city council pushed for a road around the rocks in 1891 and that by 1893 it was well under way and was nearing completion in 1897. Prison labour was used extensively in its construction.
