Undoubtedly the news event of the month was the disastrous flooding and slips that occurred in Nelson city. Before this, however, a brighter spot was the visit to Nelson of the King of Tonga, King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, and Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho. They were met at the airport by a Mayoral party and girls of the Salisbury Girls' School, Richmond, in Maori costume. Here the King meets Maraki, watched by Sharon Ngatai, Heni Rangi Rangi and Pearl Ranui and the Mayoral party.
