Something for Milady

You like making your own bread? Want to try something different? Then try this recipe for pumpkin bread, per courtesy of Mrs "Tammy" Hippolite of 84 Russell Street.

Ingredients - 8 cups flour; 1 cup sugar; 2 tbspns D.Y.C. yeast; 1½ cups cooked mashed pumpkin; about 1 pint warm water.

Method - Mix dry ingredients and then pour in warm water and mashed pumpkin; stir well with wooden spoon before pouring dough on well-floured table or board; fold in dough until it isn't sticky, using a little extra flour to get it to the right consistency. Leave to rise in a warm room for about two hours. Bake loaves in baking tins (usually used for raisin loaf). Heat oven to 400 degrees, then turn to 300-350 and bake for half an hour. After removing from the oven rub top crust with about a tbspn of butter. This produces a warm brown, soft crust. Our reaction? Delicious!
