Nelson Bays Close to Victory

Only two points-the conversion of the only try Wellington scored-separated Nelson Bays from a very honorable draw when the two teams met in Trafalgar Park's mud bath two weeks ago. Wellington (the A team) won by 11 points (a goal from a try and two penalties) to 9 (two tries and a penalty goal). There were periods during the game when Wellington applied relentless pressure and it seemed that Nelson Bays must crack. But they didn't. The mud was a great leveller and in the last 15 minutes the home side pushed home attack after attack. A tremendous effort in conditions everyone (and especially the groundsman) will want to forget. Above - Local halfback G. Townsend (who played a tremendous game) is over-run by a completely unidentifiable Wellington forward.

They say mud is good for the complexion - in that case these boys are going to be raving beauties!
