Up Top Left there, is the Takaka sound group, the "Solid State", competing in the Y.M.'s Battle of the Bands. From left, the Westrupps, Rangi, John and Netty and, at back, Paul Nee on drums and Paul Sangster. They were edged out in this contest by "The Bare Essentials" (Blenheim), a smoove group, RIGHT. Herein are Bob McGillivray, Ian Young (drums), Bernie Smith and Bruce Robins. They're to compete on Friday night, May 1, in the final, with "The Fire"(Blenheim) and "The Impact" (Hokitika).
