Do-It-Yourself Gymkhana

The young riders of ponies in the Annesbrook-Wakatu area decided to hold their own gymkhana. It was a big thought. This was one occasion on which the parents and club officials were not going to have to work. There were a few "they'll-forget-all-about-it-when-they-see-the-work-involved-in-it" grins from parents, so we're told, but the youngsters won through and handsomely. Every detail, from organising events to the making of ribbons, was carried out to perfection. A great achievement by some keen young sportsmen and women. Some who took part are seen Above with Chris Hoad (centre), ring events judge. From left: Judith Milne, Debbie Gregg, Karen Gregg, Gillian Turner, Leigh Spencer (originator of the idea), Graham Gillman, Helen Kyle and Jan Wagtendonk.
