The day was very hot and most people using the Takaka-Collingwood highway were reasonably cool. So, argued John Bowers (Motueka) and Peter Walsh (Nelson), why should they frizzle while they conducted their traffic survey for the Ministry of Works? They didn't. A good, big beach umbrella saw to that. Nothing like being comfortable in your work!

The old School of Music, battered a bit by the 1968 earthquake, is having a face lift. Reinforcement and new buttresses have been added, and some pretty soft parapets have been demolished. It is hoped to have the improvements completed by April. It is the school's 75th anniversary this year

Talk about those daring young men in their flying machines. For daring, cop this lot, taken during a demonstration of aerial top-dressing by a Blenheim pilot and aircraft. He was at grass-top level as he made his runduring the air pageant at Nelson airport last month.
