A Nelson syndicate comprising Messrs Bob Wadsworth and Doug McPherson paid $101,000 for "The Cliffs" and 23 acres of land on which the historic old building stands, when the property was auctioned in Nelson last month. The property was owned by the late Captain M. M. Moncrieff and Mrs Perrine Moncrieff for the last 40 years. The house, and most of the land, command superlative views of Tasman Bay and Tahunanui. After the auction Mr Wadsworth said the land would be subdivided for housing at some future date. The old home, built more than 100 years ago, will have to be demolished, according to Mr Wadsworth. In parts it was in very bad repair, he said. The surprising feature of the auction was that only two bidders vied for the property, the other being well-known contractor, Mr Bill Gibbons. The picture Above shows the property from the air.

The successful bidders, Messrs McPherson and Wadsworth, examine an aerial view of the property and a possible reading and sub-division plan displayed by the auctioneers.
