Vanguard Swimming Carnival

The Vanguard Swimming Club held a most successful carnival at the Nelson Intermediate School pool last month. Swimmers from clubs throughout Nelson competed in a real carnival atmosphere (as can be seen from the big sun umbrella erected at a good vantage point at the pool, RIGHT. A feature event was the 100 yards open medley in which was entered, very unofficially, a very powerful team comprising (ABOVE) Laurie Crabb (president N.Z. association), Chris Armstrong (provincial champion), Bill Homan (provincial champion and national swimmer) and Barbara Homan (nee Jonas), New Zealand record and title-holder and New Zealand representative. They were handicapped pretty hard.
