Headmaster Retires

Nelson education lost the services of two outstanding headmasters with the retirement at the end of the last school year of Messrs B. H. Wakelin, head of Nelson College, and S. P. K. Chatterton, head of Victory School. Mr Wakelin came to Nelson from Christchurch where he was headmaster of Linwood High School. He took up his new duties at Nelson in 1957. Mr Chatterton began his 40 years of teaching as teacher at the Maitai Valley School. He spent much of his teaching life in Christchurch and Canterbury districts before returning to Nelson. He has been headmaster of Victory School since 1964. Both men were given presentations at public farewells.
